Soiree Chatelaillon ConteurBut for now, the children are already getting out shovels and buckets. Sandcastles come first! I’m taking advantage of this to quietly finish the last few pages of my novel while Raphaël helps the little ones build their kingdom.
The whole tribe loves to linger on the beach at Châtelaillon at the end of the day. It’s a bit of a ritual for us. Here, the happy, friendly atmosphere of the afternoon often gives way to a calmer atmosphere that brings the family closer together.

Plage Soiree ChatelaillonIt was quieter until the race for the animal totems began! Despite a great attempt by Raphaël, it was Benjamin who hit the parrot the fastest and won. Well done! With stomachs rumbling, it’s time for the picnic.
A basket filled with local flavours, a magnificent sky and the freshness of the ocean: it’s a dream! I take it in turns to take out the sliced melon, olives, oysters and the Pineau that Raphaël and I love so much. The aperitif with your feet in the sand is a not-to-be-missed rendezvous for the people of châtelaillonnais. At 7pm, many of us set our tablecloths down facing the ocean until the sun sets on the beach. We have a drink with our neighbours and enjoy the charentais cricket sandwiches prepared in the morning. Benjamin and Lola’s “too good!” are unmistakable: the produce from the market gives our picnic an incredible flavour.
Pique Nique Plage ChatelaillonThe light fades on the seafront and the sky turns from pink to orange. The family day draws to a close with the sun slowly fading behind the horizon.
Even Lola, usually so talkative, doesn’t say a word, fascinated by the spectacle. Night finally falls on Châtelaillon. A final diversions to the Petite Havane straw hut to freshen up and everyone heads home, happy to have been able to share in the end of the day.
