Châtelaillon by bike: an escape between sea and marsh!

Less car means more adventure in Châtelaillon! Greener, more practical and friendlier, we’re adopting the bicycle to discover the natural side of the resort. Inflate your tyres, strap on your rucksacks and set off on one of our 2 beautiful signposted routes between the sea and the marshes. Whether you’re a seasoned pedaller or a cyclist with your nose to the wind, Châtelaillon has something for everyone!

From the seafront to the hinterland

The charm of Châtelaillon is far from limited to its beach! All it takes is a few pedal strokes to get away from the town for an afternoon and discover unsuspected new treasures. Old stones, superb viewpoints and unspoilt countryside: secrets we’d love to share with you!
The enthusiastic cyclists from the Châtel à vélo association have put together a great route around the resort, from the cool of the seafront to the character of the hinterland. 23 km, 7 stages and plenty of great memories to collect along the way.

The different stages of your walk :

# 1. Departure from Châtelaillon’s northern beach
Look up! Well hidden behind the pine trees, you can see the Saint-Jean fort and its square towers, built in 1812.
# 2. Head for the marina!
Get on your two-wheeler and ride along the peaceful promenade that runs alongside the main beach. Take a break at the marina to admire the view over the 3 km of sandy coastline. There’s a taste of freedom in the air…
# 3. In the heart of the Boucholeurs village
Continue your walk between land and sea towards the authentic Boucholeurs village. Say hello to the producers, sample a few fresh oysters and pause to admire one of the most beautiful views of the Ile d’Aix and Fort Enet.
Did you know? Boucholeurs comes from bouchot, the large beds used to grow mussels!

# 4. get out the chequered tablecloth
Leave the sea behind and immerse yourself in the natural surroundings of Châtelaillon. Stomach rumbling? It’s time to unpack your basket. Put down your rucksacks and get your feet under the table at the Voutron picnic area.
# 5. Bird watching
Once you’ve stocked up, preserve! The Ligue de Protection des Oiseaux (LPO) invites you to its observation post to take a closer look at the exceptional fauna of the nature reserve… And who knows, maybe you’ll see some little storks just out of their shells?
# 6. A detour to Thairé
Resume your walk through the countryside and stop for a moment in Thairé, an unspoilt Charente village and discover its 14th-century fortified church.
# 7. Head for Saint-Vivien
End your escapade with the charm and gentleness of the small commune of Saint-Vivien before completing your tour. Head for Châtelaillon!
