Children's sailing courses and catamarans: our fresh ideas for little sailors!

Châtelaillon is the ideal resort for introducing children to the pleasures of the water. Whether you’re a baby swimmer, a little sailor or a teenage sailor, the resort offers a wide range of water-based activities for all ages, all supervised by professionals. So, should you opt for an introduction to catamaran sailing or a children’s sailing course?

From the age of 4, we learn to swim

Swimming lessons on the beach

Before going sailing, learn to swim! Children’s sailing courses are not for everyone just yet. In July and August, the town installs a swimming pool on its beach dedicated to toddlers, giving them a gentle introduction to the water.

While mum has fun with her friends at the zumba class, Cathy, a qualified lifeguard, takes over! She teaches beginners the basics of swimming, and older children the crawl technique. Sign up at the Aquatic Centre!

For 5-7 year olds: les petits moussaillons

Optimist lessons

Ever heard of the Optimist? This small boat designed to introduce young sailors to sailing is a must when summer comes around. And if its name puts a smile on your face, so does the way it’s sailed!

From the age of 5, head to the Etang de la Rosière behind the Centre de Thalasso for your first children’s sailing course. Supervised and equipped, participants discover their first nautical sensations, while learning the rudiments of navigation.

They’ll be looking for balance, understanding the direction of the wind and having fun with their friends.

From age 6: budding sailors

Optimist course

After the initiation, the course! From the age of 6, you can take to the sea like a grown-up. Thanks to its hull, the Optimist can’t capsize, and that’s pretty cool. The first starts are made in groups from the calm zone of the Marina… so that by the end of the course you’re sailing towards the horizon! All under the watchful eye of a qualified instructor.

Allow 3 to 5 days for the course, 2 hours per day.

Private lessons are also available.

From age 14: freshwater sailors

Two fresh and stylish activities for teenagers

  • Catamaran raid on Sundays in summer
  • Windsurfing. Take a 3-5 day course, 2 hours a day, to learn the basics of windsurfing. You’ll be self-sufficient after 5 days!

Catamaran courses

Have you followed everything? After the children’s sailing course, we’re moving on to the next level with the catamaran course.

This famous boat with two hulls, including the famous Hobie Cat 16 and its banana-shaped structure, requires a little more bottle… On the programme for this demanding initiation: dexterity, new reflexes, a sense of the wind and marine knots. Hoist it high!
