Sea trips in Charente Maritime: our top 3!

Can you hear it? It’s the call of the open sea! Aboard your cruise boat or catamaran, the ocean is holding out its arms to you, inviting you on a delightful adventure around the islands of Charente. Whether you’re just starting out or you’re an accomplished sailor, find out if you’ve got your sea legs in our top 3 sea trips in Charente maritime!

Boat or catamaran cruising: what's the difference?

Your boots and foulies are ready! Are you still hesitating between a cruising boat or a catamaran for your sea trip in Charente Maritime?

If you’re looking for speed and thrills, you’re definitely cut out for the cruising boat. The movement of the waves spices up your expedition, while the foam refreshes all the crew on deck. Kids love it! Tame the swell like real sailors and set sail for Fort Boyard.

For a calmer moment in the waters of Charente, opt for a catamaran. Like Fort Boyard, the imposing hulls of your boat will resist the waves and give you a wave-free ride. Take advantage of this interlude at sea to admire the scenery and share a convivial moment.

The tourist office advises you…

# 1 - We all have a soft spot for Fort Boyard!

Fort Boyard is synonymous with trials, tigers and the treasure room!

From La Rochelle or Fouras, take the whole family on a trip around this cult fortification.

Once you’ve boarded the cruise boat, a one- to two-hour tour of the open sea awaits you to explore the surroundings of this legendary fortress. As you get closer, the adrenalin starts to pump and you feel ready to solve all the riddles of Father Fouras and his acolytes!

# 2- Catamaran version of Fort Boyard

After discovering the Fort on a cruise boat, all we want to do is go back! But this time by catamaran, for a change of scenery. The programme includes a 4-hour excursion between the islands and the coast.

A superb sunset over the sea brings this wonderful experience to a close. With friends or loved ones, you can take advantage of this magical moment to toast the occasion. With oysters, prawns and Pinot des Charentes, you can savour the pleasure of being together with an aperitif on the water.

# 3 - Head for the islands!

From the pointe de la fumée in Fouras, Rochefort or La Rochelle, opt for an escapade around the Charente islands. The explorers and adventurers in you will be delighted!

You can choose between a 20-minute crossing with the maritime shuttle or a 1h15 sea trip on a cruise boat. Make the pleasure last and opt for the longer trip. Pass Fort Enet and dock on the island of Aix, an island of unspoilt nature with hidden beaches, walking trails and seafood restaurants.

You’ll feel so at home here that you’ll almost forget to take the last shuttle back to the mainland!

#4 - Live from Châtel!

Baptiste from Le Loup des Mers is waiting for you at the port of Châtelaillon for a trip on a semi-rigid boat to the Ile d’Aix and Fort Boyard. He’ll meet you at the end of the pontoon to take you out to sea for a 1h15 ride with your nose to the wind.

And at low tide, you can take the boat out for a private tour. Baptiste will drop you off on the Ile d’Aix, or on a beach for a romantic picnic… A great idea!

And if you’re feeling romantic, a sunset at sea is a must!
