Tide times – EN

? Foreshore and mud at low tide

Twice a day, the sea recedes, revealing a new playground on the beach: the foreshore. This is your chance to :

– Fishing on foot! Harvest (crabs, prawns, razor clams, etc.), measure (the Tourist Office provides the rules) and release if necessary.
release if necessary
– Draw in the wet sand
– See oyster farmers at work

?At high tide, it’s swimming and iodine

Great, now we can :
– Take a dip
– Get out the paddle and windsurf
– Play a game of snowshoes or Frisbee in the spray

To make the most of this coming and going, here’s a simple guide:

Each tide lasts around six hours, and the ideal time for swimming is two hours before and two hours after high tide. The tidal coefficient provides a further clue. When it’s high, the sea retreats a long way at low tide and returns with a vengeance at high tide, offering plenty of depth for swimming. When the coefficient is low, the sea moves less: it stays closer, but without much depth. In any case, for comfortable swimming, it’s always best to aim for the period around high tide.
