From the sweet smells of ripe fruit to sun-kissed vegetables and local specialities, fill up on colour and flavour before heading home with your basket full. Got what you need? Let’s get cooking!

At the crossroads of life in châtelaillonnais

The fairground market in Châtelaillon brings together more than 80 traders in the off-season and up to 180 at the height of the season. Prepare several baskets! They’re all waiting for you along the boulevard de Lattre de Tassigny, de la Libération and rue du marché for a moment of sharing and conviviality.

When to come to the market?

Every Tuesday and Friday morning

  • May to September, 8am to 1pm
  • October to April, 9am to 12.30pm

“I have a lot of memories of the fairground market in Châtelaillon. My mother and her mother used to do their shopping there back in the day. It was a chance to go with them.

Marie, 50 years old

Come for the stroll, stay for the atmosphere!

To stock up on fresh produce, to arouse the curiosity of the little ones or to meet the local producers, there’s a good reason to stroll around the outdoor market in Châtelaillon.

Here are our top 3

1 – Choose seasonal produce! Each time of year brings new flavours to the market.

3 – Get invaluable advice! Our local producers are passionate about their products! The outdoor market is an opportunity for them to share their knowledge and expertise, so don’t hesitate to stock up on good ideas. And fresh produce!

2 – Crossing paths! The market aisles are a real crossroads for life in Châtelaillonnais, where producers and holidaymakers, doyens and toddlers mingle. It’s a great place to meet up with friends and regulars over a favourite coffee, and to share a morning’s experience of local life. What more could you ask for than good company and delicious produce?

Our must-see stands!

While every stall has its own charm, the Châtelaillon fairground boasts a number of flagship producers not to be missed! We’re not going to lie, we’ve got a few favourites…

For those with a sweet tooth, there are two mouth-watering stands direct from Vendée. Brioches for the first, melons for the second: we’ll let you choose!

For lovers of fine produce, there are of course stalls selling seasonal fruit and vegetables. Taste, taste… and taste!

For those who fancy a sweet treat on a Sunday, the bakery-pastry shop in the rue du Marché has something to make your mouth water…

And for those who like to start the day with a good cup of coffee, let yourself be tempted by the friendly atmosphere of the café du marché: gourmet aromas, lively discussions and little breaks that do you good!

“It’s heart-warming to see loyal customers coming back year after year. For some families, you get to see the children grow up little by little and follow their story. I wouldn’t trade my job for anything in the world.

Alain, 41, market gardener

“Melon is the king of the holiday table! As an aperitif, starter, picnic, sweet or savoury, it goes with everything!

Kevin, 20, melon seller
