Practical information

It’s decided, you’re coming to spend your next holiday in Châtelaillon-Plage and the surrounding area.
To help you make the most of your Châtelaillon experience, we’re sharing with you our top tips and must-sees, so that you can come and join us, get around the area easily and make the most of your holiday. So follow us.

First step: come and join us

Whether you prefer to take the train or the plane, or rather the car to get the whole family to their destination, we can tell you all about the means of transport that will bring you to us.

Second step: come and meet us

As you’ll have gathered, we know La Rochelle and the surrounding area and Châtelaillon-Plage inside out. Emmanuelle, Nicolas and the whole team at the 2 local tourist offices will welcome you and make your stay an unforgettable experience.

Step 3: Prepare your activity schedule

After all, there’s nothing more disappointing than returning home to discover that you didn’t know that approaching Fort Boyard by boat was an essential part of your holiday in châtelaillonnais.
Download this year’s resort guide. You’ll find ideas for walks and meetings, as well as a day-by-day timetable for your stay. And if you’re still not sure where to stay, take a look at our accommodation guide.

Step four: Find your future favourite bakery

Is there a bakery near the rental site for morning croissants? Or a mini-market that closes late for after-beach shopping? You’ll find all the answers to your questions in the full list of shops in the resort.

Fifth stage: off to the beach

With your feet caressed by the golden sand and your eyes fixed on Fort Boyard, you can make the most of our three kilometres of beach to your heart’s content: lounging and swimming on the north beach, water sports on the south beach, ice cream tasting on the Casino beach…

The beach here is gently sloping, with no waves or rollers. Both swimming and sailing can be enjoyed in complete safety.

Large masts topped with animals are planted on the beach in season to help children find their way around. A lion, a panda, an elephant… Choose yours and show it to the children so that they don’t stray too far from it.

Swimming

Where can I swim?

The bathing zone is indicated at sea by yellow buoys located at a distance of 300 m. Outside this zone, swimming is no longer safe for water sports.

When is it safe to swim?

Châtelaillon beach is unique in that it is located on a muddy foreshore. Swimming is therefore only possible at high tide, i.e. two hours before and up to two hours after high tide. Don’t forget to check the Live page to find out the time of the next swim.

Swimming is supervised from 2 lifeguard posts located on Châtelaillon’s main beach, every day from 1 July to 31 August, from 11am to 7pm. Each supervised bathing area is marked by flames on the beach, for a length of 250 m and within the limit of 300 m at sea.

For your own safety, please keep informed of bathing conditions, including outside supervised areas.
